When it comes to your weight or your health or your body shape, what do you believe?

Do you believe that you will always be big?

Do you believe that due to your genetics, you are destined to struggle with your weight?

Do you believe that it is hard to lose weight?

Do you believe that every time you lose weight, you will gain it back and then some?

Do you believe that you lack the motivation and will power to do what it takes to drop the weight?

These are a few of the many negative things that you could believe about yourself. But I want you to know, that It’s not all your fault. We’ve been taught these things since the day we we were born.

When we are newborns, we are  blank slates. At this age our bodies only need a few basic things such as the need to be fed, to be changed, to be loved and to sleep. We do these things when and how much we want. Anyone who has had children, or has spent much time with a baby knows that young children want what they want when they want it. The many, many sleep deprived parents we see are a testament to this.

As we grow, we are basically trained by the people we come in contact with the most . You see, at this young age, we believe we can do anything, be anything and have anything we want until someone tells us that we can’t. We demand food when we are hungry and stop eating when we are full. This period in our lives is when we begin to accumulate our  beliefs about eating.

Things like…

“You have to eat everything on your plate because there are starving kids in Africa”.

“It is dinner time so you have to sit down to a meal”.

“You can’t eat that because it will make you fat”.

And so on.

These are beliefs we take with us into our adult life. They become the things that control how and what we eat.

The good news is…

It’s easy to learn to replace bad habits with beliefs that serve us better now.

The first step to busting your bad beliefs is to identify them.

Some of these beliefs are going to be easy to change. On the surface they are pretty straight forward.

Things like…

“I have to finish eating everything on my plate”.

Once you slow down your eating and really pay attention to how full you are getting, do you still HAVE to keep eating because there is food on your plate? or because there are  leftovers going to be throw away? Or, do you clean up just that little dab left in the bottom of the pot, pan or dish just because?

You might be thinking…

“If a little bit is good, then more must be better”. So if a scoop of ice cream is delicious, then a tub of it must be better. Have you ever really enjoyed an entire tub of ice cream all the way to the END? Maybe you started feeling a little sick around the middle, but kept eating it anyway?

Those are just two examples. Soon we will look at some belief busters to help you get started.

Other of your beliefs are going to be a little harder to identify because chances are, you don’t even know you have them, since you developed them at such a young age that logically they don’t make sense to you now, but when you were 5 years old, they made perfect sense.

Let's talk about those for a moment.

The most important thing about it all, is no matter what your beliefs are, where they came from or how long you have been living with them, YOU have the power to change these old, outmoded beliefs and install new ones today!

Think of your brain as a computer. Right now you are running some outdated programs that result in your current reality but once you have identified those programs, you can install a new, better updated version which will give you the result you want.

Sound like fun? Yes!

Let’s get started!
